{"id":386,"date":"2012-03-01T20:48:19","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T20:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/?p=386"},"modified":"2012-03-01T20:48:19","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T20:48:19","slug":"are-you-broadcasting-your-credit-information-to-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/?p=386","title":{"rendered":"Are You Broadcasting Your Credit Information to the World?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/?p=386\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"225px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div><p>I got an e-mail the other day from my friend Paul down in South Florida.\u00a0 It seems that Paul had learned about a small chip that is being embedded in many new credit and debit cards that sends out a signal containing all of the cardholder&#8217;s account information for that card.<\/p>\n<p>Known as an RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification), these new cards are marketed as a &#8220;convenience&#8221; for the card&#8217;s owner.\u00a0 They allow you to simply hold your card <em>close<\/em> to a reader rather than having to go to all the effort and trouble of swiping the card <em>through<\/em> the card reader.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that also means that a thief using a portable card reader that simply passes near to your card can capture your credit or debit card information, clone the card, and then use it to make purchases and steal your money.\u00a0 If your card has the words &#8220;paypass&#8221;, &#8220;paywave&#8221;, or &#8220;blink&#8221; on it, it has an RFID chip in it.\u00a0 You can also look for a symbol that looks something like this )))).\u00a0 Regardless of which word appears on the card, thieves can obtain your account information and use your good name for their own bad purpose.<\/p>\n<p>To protect your credit information, you can demand that your card issuer provide a card that does not have a chip in it.\u00a0 You can also purchase a credit card sleeve or wallet that blocks the radio waves these chips send out; or, you can simply wrap your card in aluminum foil to shield it.<\/p>\n<p>Want to learn more about RFID credit and debit cards and how to protect yourself?\u00a0 Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lLAFhTjsQHw&amp;sns=em\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lLAFhTjsQHw&amp;sns=em<\/a> and watch the news report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got an e-mail the other day from my friend Paul down in South Florida.\u00a0 It seems that Paul had learned about a small chip that is being embedded in many new credit and debit cards that sends out a signal containing all of the cardholder&#8217;s account information for that card.
