{"id":551,"date":"2013-03-09T22:58:11","date_gmt":"2013-03-09T22:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/?p=551"},"modified":"2013-03-09T22:58:11","modified_gmt":"2013-03-09T22:58:11","slug":"when-it-comes-to-people-perhaps-you-can-judge-the-book-by-its-cover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/?p=551","title":{"rendered":"When It Comes to People, Perhaps You Can Judge the Book by its Cover"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/eagleoneresources.com\/?p=551\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"225px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div><p>In a touch of irony, I read two quotations this week that lead me to believe that some books can be judged by their covers &#8230; if the &#8220;books&#8221; are the people we meet.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not talking about the clothes they wear, the cars they drive, or the titles on their doors.\u00a0 Rather, I&#8217;m talking about the way they treat others.\u00a0 Consider this &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The Greek Orator, Demosthenes, wrote that a person &#8220;cannot have a proud and chivalrous spirit if (his) conduct is mean and paltry; for whatever a man&#8217;s actions are, such must be his spirit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Think for a moment about the leaders you have known.\u00a0 How did they treat others.\u00a0 In all probability, those that you consider to be great leaders are most likely those that you believe treated others fairly.\u00a0 They played no favorites.\u00a0 Every person received the same consideration and attention.\u00a0 The ones for whom you have little regard for their leadership skills are very probably the ones who you believe treated some of their followers unfairly.\u00a0 They could not be counted on to be impartial.\u00a0 They only gave favorable treatment to those that they perceived to be in a position to provide some benefit to them.<\/p>\n<p>Great leaders have the unique ability to set aside personal feelings and consider the well-being of <em><strong>ALL<\/strong><\/em> those that they lead, not just the favored few.\u00a0 While we may not always like the decisions that these leaders make, we respect them and are confident that their verdicts are rendered with an eye toward the impact of their decisions on everyone.\u00a0 Great leaders do not make decisions based on the preferences of &#8220;yes men&#8221;; the whims of those whose support they seek; the desires of those from whom they wish to curry favor.\u00a0 Great leaders do what is best for all concerned; what is right.<\/p>\n<p>This leads to the second quotation, attributed to Malcolm S.
